I've always had a thing for Nicholas II.
He's dreamy, yes. Powerful, sure. Rich? Check. Impressive moustache? Boy howdy. But also, from all historical accounts, he adored his children and was very much in love with his wife, Alexandra. And in those days...that's pretty cool what with all the political marriages and such. There are a lot of love letters that have survived...he called her "Sunny."

MY BELOVED SUNNY,
I thank you most warmly for your dear letters, and for the love which enriches every one of your lines! I rejoice in them, drinking in each word of the letter, breathing its perfume, and pressing to my lips the paper which has been touched by your hands. [snip]
Well, I think it is time for me to finish my letter. God guard you, my darling Wify, and our children! I kiss and embrace you all tenderly.
Your old hubby
NICKY.
"Your old hubby." Heh. You can't beat that. What a sweetie-pie.
"so Sunny, send at least one thoughtful letter, my heart goes out to you...." :)
